Walking is often referred to as the “wonder drug” due to its numerous health benefits. Engaging in an average of 30 minutes of walking per day can significantly lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. Additionally, walking regularly helps manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, reduces the risk of cancer, maintains bone density, and improves balance and coordination.
The club not only caters to individuals seeking personal health goals but also works closely with healthcare professionals. Burnside Walkers offers a structured and supportive walking programme that complements the care provided by healthcare practitioners. Whether participants choose to walk alone or in a group, this programme motivates individuals to meet the national physical activity guidelines and improve their overall well-being.
The impact of walking on individuals' lives can be profound. Maria, a member of Burnside Walkers, shared her inspiring story of successfully managing her weight, diabetes, and blood pressure through walking. Starting with just 5,000 steps a day, Maria gradually increased her daily steps to an impressive 15,000. As a result, she is no longer diabetic and no longer experiences issues with her blood pressure.
Maria highlights how the simplest form of exercise can have a remarkable positive impact on mental and physical health.
Joining the Burnside Walkers community is as easy as joining their Facebook group.
