Every player, regardless of their skill level or commitment level, has a place within the Bulleen Templestowe Amateur Football Club, also known as the Bullants.
Located in Templestowe Lower, a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, the Bullants are a vibrant and inclusive club that prides itself on its strong community spirit and dedication to the sport. The club boasts four teams, including the Women's, Under 19's, Senior Men's, and Reserves Men's teams, providing opportunities for players of all ages and genders to participate and develop their skills.
The Bullants' Women's programme is a source of inspiration and pride for the club. The camaraderie and care shared amongst the players contribute to their successes on the field, including their first-ever appearance in finals, a win in a final, and a strong challenge in the Grand Final. The club values the empowerment and growth of its female players, and their achievements serve as motivation for the entire club.
The formation of the Under 19's team has been a long-awaited achievement. The dedication and effort put into establishing this side over the years have resulted in a group of talented and respectful young gentlemen that epitomise the Bullants' spirit. Beyond their accomplishments on the field, the team's commitment to the club and their positive attitude make the entire club proud.
In the Senior Men's team, the Bullants have shown resilience and determination. While they may not have achieved the desired win-loss record in the previous season, their efforts on game day were commendable. The team strived to be competitive in each match, but they faced challenges in closing out games and securing victories. Moving forward, the focus is on learning to win, even when faced with adversity, and regaining that winning mindset.
The Reserves Men's team faced survival mode, but their ability to field a side each week was a victory in itself. The team's existence was instrumental in preserving the club's livelihood, and the dedication of Coach Wayne Murphy and other Bullants who rallied friends to help out with numbers demonstrated the tight-knit nature of the club. The difficult times have only strengthened the club's resolve and determination to succeed.
The Bullants express their gratitude to outgoing President Russell Wallis, whose leadership over the past ten years has been invaluable, particularly during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior Captains Sam and Harry have also gone above and beyond their duties, exemplifying the true spirit of the club. The Bullants count themselves fortunate to have such individuals leading the way.
Looking ahead to Season 2023, the Bullants acknowledge the importance of setting goals and aiming high while remaining present in the moment. The club is on track to achieve its long-term plan of having both the Women's and Men's teams competing in leading divisions. However, the focus is not solely on the destination but on continual improvement on and off the field.
The Bullants believe that the divisions they compete in are a by-product of the hard work and dedication of each individual within the club. It is the club's philosophy that earning success is an exciting journey, and once a taste for it is acquired, the desire to achieve more becomes sustainable. “A taste for earning it” is synonymous with club pride, emphasising that success is not determined solely by division placement but by the commitment and effort put in by each member.
Every player is valued and encouraged to contribute according to their abilities and circumstances. The Bullants recognise that they are stronger as a club when they have a diverse and inclusive group. Therefore, every player, regardless of their skill level or availability, is welcomed, and any thoughts of guilt or inadequacy should not hinder their participation. The club believes that strength lies in numbers, and each player adds to the collective energy and spirit of the Bullants.
The Bullants continue to strive for improvement and success, both on and off the field. They invite anyone passionate about Australian rules football and eager to be part of a tight-knit community to join them at Bulleen Templestowe Amateur Football Club, where dedication, inclusivity, and a taste for earning success define the club's identity.
