The region is showing immense dedication by investing a staggering $23.6 million in the construction of a brand new BMX racetrack and Football Centre of Excellence in Brendale. These projects are a part of the Council's visionary 10-year plan leading up to the prestigious Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The much-anticipated BMX racetrack at Nolan Park is set to be a game-changer for the region. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities, this track aims to nurture and develop BMX champions, with hopes of producing Australia's first gold medallist in this thrilling discipline. The track's construction is set to commence in January 2022 and is expected to be completed by June 2022, offering a thrilling new venue for adrenaline-pumping races and showcasing the incredible talent within our community.
Additionally, the South Pine Sports Complex is set to undergo an impressive transformation with the completion of the $22 million football centre of excellence. This exceptional facility will become the new home for Brisbane Roar's junior academy and women's team, solidifying its status as a hub of football excellence. The centre's completion is slated to coincide with the highly anticipated FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023, which Australia will proudly co-host. With FIFA already expressing interest in utilising this state-of-the-art facility to host an international team, the future is indeed bright for football enthusiasts in the region.
It is important to highlight that these remarkable projects have been made possible through the generous funding provided by the State and Federal Governments.
