Bonemap is a dynamic and innovative dance company and desktop publishing service based in Cairns City, Australia. Founded by artists Rebecca Youdell and Russell Milledge, Bonemap is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression through the intersection of body, site, and art. They strongly believe in the importance of collaborating with and honouring the traditional custodians of the land and waters in which they create.
With a deep respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, Bonemap actively supports and encourages the continued cultural, spiritual, and educational practises of these communities. They acknowledge and pay tribute to the Elders, both past and present, whose Country they frequently traverse.
Bonemap's portfolio boasts an impressive array of projects and collaborations. These include video installations, funerary objects and performances, photomedia installations, micro animations, performance installations, virtual reality experiences, curatorial projects, indigenous projection art, international exchanges, new media festivals, environmental music and projection, and much more.
The company has embarked on a North America tour, showcasing “Bayal Kaymanen” (Dancing Smoke), a mesmerising and captivating performance by Miriki. Furthermore, they have partnered with acclaimed artists such as Arone Meeks, Zane Saunders, Billy Missi, and Natalia Mann, to create thought-provoking and boundary-pushing pieces of art.
Bonemap's interdisciplinary approach to art-making is rooted in a mesh of hybrid sensory processes and conceptual visual communication. Their philosophy is deeply ecological and experimental, informed by the spatial logic of choreography and scenography. They believe in developing seminal artistic experiences in regional and remote areas of Australia while maintaining a commitment to community-based commissions and public engagements.
Rebecca Youdell and Russell Milledge bring their wealth of experience and expertise to Bonemap, facilitating collaborative teams that are dedicated to the expanding territory of intermediality. They have led projects to international destinations such as Singapore, Wales, and Japan, showcasing the diversity and innovation of Australian art.
Bonemap's dedication to pushing boundaries, exploring new artistic frontiers, and fostering collaborations makes them a leading force in the Australian dance, desktop publishing, and performing arts scene. With their commitment to cultural preservation, community engagement, and artistic excellence, Bonemap continues to inspire and challenge audiences with their unique and groundbreaking productions.
