Welcome to Bognor Regis Zen Judo Club, a renowned martial arts school founded on the 1st of March 2004 by Chief Instructor John Robertson. Our club, affiliated with The British Zen Judo Family Association and Kenshindoryu Nippon Budo Kyokai, is known for its dedication to the art of judo and creating a nurturing non-competitive environment for its students.
In Zen Judo, we believe that judo is more than just a sport. It is about achieving perfection in technique, focusing on throws and holds. We start our training by teaching basic skills such as forward rolls and gentle break falls, ensuring that all students, regardless of their initial skill level, can progress steadily. As students develop, they learn more advanced throws, gradually increasing the height and power of their movements.
Unlike many judo clubs, we prioritise technical knowledge and skills over competitive success when awarding grades. At Bognor Regis Zen Judo Club, everyone, from the age of six to sixty-plus, can train together and enjoy the sport of judo. It is a unique experience that allows parents to train with their children, fostering a special bond within the club. Our main goal is to build not only judo ability but also confidence, emphasising cooperation and a relaxed, fun, and familial atmosphere.
Judo, which translates to “Gentle Way,” is all about technique rather than relying on brute strength. We instil in our students the principles of using an opponent's strength against them and yielding to their attacks. These are the valuable lessons we strive to incorporate into our training.
As a part of the wider martial arts community, Bognor Regis Zen Judo Club is a proud member of The Zen Judo Family. We maintain strong affiliations with The British Zen Judo Family Association and Kenshindoryu Nippon Budo Kyokai. Additionally, we foster friendships and connexions with various other martial arts clubs and organisations, further enriching our students' experiences.
