Stephen, the organiser, wanted to remind everyone about the opportunity to take LAMDA Drama exams. It’s a great way to get a recognised qualification in acting.
Stephen is proud to be associated with the Betty Wivell Academy of Performing Arts in South London. As many of you know, it’s top-notch when it comes to performing arts in our area. The academy is passionate about high standards and building commitment and self-confidence among its students. There are plenty of classes for aspiring performers, no matter how young or old.
The academy offers all sorts of classes – RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, LAMDA Drama, and singing. They follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabi, which means students get solid training and can take exams to earn certificates and medals.
Every year, the Betty Wivell Academy hosts shows and competitions. These give students a chance to perform, gain experience, and build teamwork skills. One big event is the annual Choreographic Competition where students get to show off their creativity and get feedback from a West End professional.
The academy also runs group singing lessons. Students can work on their vocal skills, learn musical theatre songs, and study different composers. They get to perform in the academy's summer Cabaret and BWA Carol concerts, which helps boost their performance skills.
Drama is a big deal at the academy. The drama training focuses on communication, imaginative thinking, and vocal projection. Students get to perform in the annual evening of plays, learning the ins and outs of performing “in the round.” And, of course, the option to take LAMDA Drama exams is there for those wanting an official qualification.
