Ballet Black

Ballet Black, founded by Cassa Pancho MBE in 2001, is a professional ballet company based in London, England. With a mission to celebrate dancers of Black and Asian descent, Ballet Black is committed to making a fundamental change in the diversity of classical ballet in Britain. This change is reflected on stage, behind the scenes, and among audiences and dance students.

Over the past twenty plus years, Ballet Black has worked tirelessly to change the landscape of classical ballet through performances, their Junior School, and outreach programmes. They are known as one of the most prolific commissioners of new and critically acclaimed ballets in the UK, and have successfully developed diverse dance audiences across the country.

Ballet Black's ultimate goal is to see a fundamental change in the number of Black and culturally diverse dancers in mainstream ballet companies, making their initial vision wonderfully unnecessary.

Ballet Black's upcoming tour dates for Spring 2024 are now on sale and include performances at various venues such as Hackney Empire, Oxford Playhouse, Barbican, Birmingham Rep, and Festival Theatre Edinburgh. These performances showcase the company's production “HEROES”.

In addition to their performances and support programmes, Ballet Black also offers studio hire. Their dance studio is available for occasional hire and features a huge ceiling height, a brand new fully sprung Harlequin Allegro dance floor, and underfloor heating. It is suitable for a variety of classes, workshops, rehearsals, auditions, and photography.
