Tyla McDonald (AU)
Biography
Tyla McDonald found her way into boxing almost by accident. Originally trying out the sport to improve her fitness for netball, Tyla soon discovered a deep passion for the combat sport. Raised on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, she swapped the netball court for the boxing ring in 2015 and hasn't looked back since.
With coach Marcos Amado guiding her at Peninsula Boxing, Tyla showcased her talent early on, winning 22 out of her first 30 fights. Her tenacity earned her four Victorian titles and four Australian championships, marking her as one to watch.
Recognized by Boxing Australia, Tyla was awarded a Tier 3 scholarship through the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program in 2022. Her hard work paid off when she secured a gold medal at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, qualifying her for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Competing in the 60kg division, she dominated with power and precision.
Beyond the ring, Tyla dreams of becoming a police officer and helping troubled youth, channeling her determination and strength into making a difference in her community.
