Sophie Linn, hailing from Toorak Gardens in Adelaide, embarked on her athletic journey during her school days, excelling in cross-country, swimming, and track and field events. She clinched multiple national-level medals in 800m, 1500m, and 3000m races and was renowned as the national cross-country champion in 2007 at just 12 years old.
At 16, Sophie showcased her talents at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, securing a silver medal in the 1500m and finishing seventh in the 3000m. Her quest for athletic excellence led her to the University of Mississippi in 2012, where she made waves as part of the best freshman team. In 2014, she transferred to the University of Michigan, where she furthered her sports career and academic achievements until graduating in 2018.
It wasn't until 2018 that Sophie ventured into the world of triathlon, competing across multiple events in both the USA and Australia. She demonstrated her prowess by finishing her first World Triathlon Cup race in 2019 and soon after, winning her first gold medal at the Triathlon Asian Cup in Japan.
The pandemic temporarily paused the triathlon scene, but Sophie returned stronger in mid-2021 following a partially torn Achilles. She went on to win gold at the 2022 Oceania Triathlon Cup in Australia. That same year, she shined at the senior Commonwealth Games, bagging a silver medal in the mixed team relay and placing fifth in the individual women’s triathlon.
Sophie’s accomplishments continued as she secured her first World Triathlon Championship medal, finishing second in Hamburg in late 2022. Now, as she zeros in on the Olympics, Sophie has reached new heights in 2024, claiming her first World Triathlon Cup gold medal and clinching gold in the mixed relay in Napier.
