Shaun Connor
Shaun Connor (AU)
Biography
From a young age, Shaun Connor was destined for the water, growing up on Sydney's northern beaches in a family passionate about sailing. By the age of four, he was already navigating the waves, a pursuit he started with his older brother at the Middle Harbour Skiff Club. His parents, both avid sailors, were instrumental in nurturing his early love for the sport.
Teaming up with Jim Colley at 14, the duo quickly made a name for themselves in the sailing world. By 16, they were competing on the international stage at the ISAF Youth World Championships in Portugal. Their partnership flourished, leading to significant results in the 49er circuit, including a silver medal at the 2023 Hyeres regatta in France, a key lead-up event for the Paris Olympics.
Despite facing challenges, like Jim's illness at the start of the Hyeres regatta, Shaun's dedication shone through. Their victory at the Sail Sydney regatta later that year secured an Olympic spot for Australia, a testament to their hard work and synergy.
With experience in the tricky Marseille waters, Shaun and Jim are well-prepared for the unique conditions that the Paris Olympic regatta will present. Shaun thrives on sailing’s multifaceted challenges, from teamwork and communication to understanding complex environmental factors.
Holding a bachelor of construction management and property from the University of NSW, Shaun envisions a dual career that merges his passion for sailing with his academic background, aiming to excel both in sports and in the business world.
