Biography
Shane O'Neill, a Melbourne native, picked up his first skateboard at the age of 10. By 13, his talents were undeniable, earning him his first professional sponsors. Renowned for his technical prowess, Shane quickly became a prominent figure in skateboarding, consistently making appearances in finals around the globe.
2016 was a breakout year for Shane as he dominated the scene by winning the Tampa Pro, the Pro Open, and the Super Crown World Championship, earning him the title of World Skateboarding Champion. This was also the year he nabbed a silver medal at the X Games in Oslo. He didn't slow down in 2017, securing a second place at the World Skateboarding Championships and later adding an X Games bronze medal in 2018, celebrated in front of a home crowd in Sydney.
Shane's career saw him crowned champion at the 2020 Oceania Continental Street Championships. His strong performance carried over to the Olympic stage, where he represented Australia in Tokyo, though he narrowly missed the finals. Notably, in the same year, he broke new ground by becoming one of the first Australian athletes to have his own signature shoe, and his online presence soared with over 1.4 million Instagram followers.
O'Neill is in an elite club of skaters who have clinched gold in the X Games, Street League Skateboarding, Tampa Pro, and the World Skateboarding Championship. His accomplishment continued with a 2022 Summer X Games gold in Chiba, Japan, and a respectable fifth place at the 2023 X Games in California. Looking ahead, Shane is set for Paris, having secured his spot following a strong showing at a qualification event in Budapest in 2024.
