Biography
Se-Bom Lee made a memorable entrance at the Australian Olympic selection trials in Adelaide in 2021, proving that his early potential had transitioned seamlessly into the senior stages of his swimming career. Born in Campsie, NSW, and of Korean heritage, Se-Bom was raised in Sydney where his journey in swimming began at the tender age of six. His talent quickly shone through as he accumulated medals and drew the attention of national selectors, earning him a spot on the Australian team for the 2018 Junior Pan Pacs in Fiji.
His impressive performance at the Australian age titles garnered five medals—three golds in the two medleys and the 200m backstroke in the 17 years division—securing his selection for the FINA world junior titles in Budapest. There, he achieved a personal best to finish fifth in the 200m IM event.
Se-Bom narrowly missed out on the 200m individual medley but clinched a place for Tokyo with a stellar 4:14.16 swim in the 400m IM at the Olympic trials. Though his 4:15.76 swim in Tokyo didn't advance him to the semis, he continued to demonstrate his prowess at international competitions, including the world titles in Budapest and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
As he gears up for the Paris Olympics, Se-Bom has diversified his training and solidified his spot on the team with strong performances, including a 1:57.02 finish in the 200m backstroke at the Brisbane trials. Away from the pool, he is pursuing a bachelor of medical science at the University of Technology, Sydney, balancing academics with his athletic commitments.
Determined and adaptable, Se-Bom continues to strive for excellence, making a significant mark on the Australian swimming scene and beyond.
