Biography
Nic Porter, born in Baulkham Hills and raised in Peregian Springs, started his water polo journey at the age of nine. Initially interested in both soccer and swimming, he decided to combine his passions and took up water polo. His talent was evident early on as he led St Andrew's Anglican College to four consecutive league championships from 2012 to 2015. By 2017, Nic was already making waves on the international stage, competing at the FINA Junior World Championships.
In 2018, he moved to the USA to study health and human sciences at the University of Southern California (USC) while furthering his water polo career. He made an instant impact by winning the NCAA Division 1 Championship in his first season and debuting for the Aussie Sharks, securing a silver medal at the FINA Men's Water Polo League later that year.
During his time with the USC Trojans, Nic continued to impress, earning spots on the NCAA All-Tournament First and Second Teams. After the pandemic hiatus, he represented Australia at the 2022 FINA World Championships and joined Spanish club CN Atletic-Barceloneta, winning the Spanish Super Cup in his debut season.
In 2023, he added a bronze medal at the LEN European Champions League to his achievements while representing Australia in multiple international competitions. As he gears up for the Paris 2024 Games, Nic draws inspiration from his training sessions with Croatian Olympic goalkeeper Marko Bijac, aiming to replicate his mentor's success.
