Biography
Mollie O'Callaghan burst onto the international swimming scene as a prodigious talent from South Brisbane, Queensland. By her early twenties, Mollie had already made significant waves, most notably at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Despite facing a knee injury prior to the championship, Mollie defied the odds to clinch six medals, five of which were gold. Her stunning performances contributed to four world record-breaking relays.
Mollie’s crowning moment came when she took gold in the 100m freestyle, defeating her idol, Emma McKeon. Her extraordinary journey included an electrifying victory in the 200m freestyle, where she set a world record time of 01:52.85, completing a historic 100m-200m double at the championships.
Having started swimming at the Greenbank Crocs before moving to St Peters Western, Mollie's journey under the coach Dean Boxall's guidance has been nothing short of remarkable. She won her first Olympic medals in Tokyo 2020 and has been setting benchmarks ever since. Mollie’s resilience and fierce competitiveness make her a standout athlete, and she is expected to be a key figure for Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
