Maximillian Giuliani (AU)
Biography
Maximillian Giuliani, often dubbed the young gun from Tasmania, has had a journey marked by resilience and determination. Almost switching paths to become a tradesman at 17, Max was inspired by his friends who chose that route. However, in 2022, he made a pivotal move to the Gold Coast, joining the Miami Swim Club to give swimming one last serious effort.
Despite struggling early on, including a disappointing finish in the 200m freestyle at the Australian trials, Max's dedication never wavered. His upbringing in the coastal town of Carlton, paired with his background in water polo and surf lifesaving, shaped his relentless pursuit of excellence. Max's fortunes changed dramatically after his relocation, culminating in a standout performance at the Queensland Championships in late 2023 where he clocked the second-fastest 200m freestyle time in Australian history.
His drive to break Ian Thorpe’s longstanding record fuels his training as he eyes the 2024 Paris Olympics. Max's first international podium finish at the Berlin leg of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup further solidified his status as a rising star. With a new personal best set in Budapest, Max intends to make a significant impact in Paris, aiming not just for a medal, but ideally a gold one. Guided by his coach Richard Scarce, Max is confident in their strategy and the relentless work ethic required to achieve their goals.
