Biography
Matthew Hauser, a Hervey Bay native, is currently one of Australia's top triathletes making waves on the international scene. With Paris 2024 on the horizon, he's a top-10 world-ranked triathlete heading into the Olympic year, showcasing a journey marked by determination and resilience.
Matthew's breakthrough came in 2017 when he clinched the junior World Championship title in Rotterdam with a decisive lead. His first Commonwealth Games appearance in 2018 was a mixture of triumph and heartbreak — while he narrowly missed an individual podium finish, he shone brightly in the mixed relay team that won gold, delivering the fastest individual time in that event.
Despite facing significant setbacks in 2018, including a fractured metacarpal and shoulder reconstruction, his comeback in 2019 saw him winning gold in two ITU Triathlon World Cup events. By 2021, Matthew added a U23 World Championship bronze to his growing list of accolades and made his Olympic debut in Tokyo, finishing 24th in the men's individual and aiding his team to a ninth-place finish in the mixed relay.
In 2023, Matthew's perseverance paid off as he clinched his first World Triathlon Championship Series win in Montreal. His outstanding performance continued at the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, securing his spot for Paris 2024. Most recently, he dominated the 2024 Oceania Triathlon Championships in New Zealand, winning by a 29-second margin.
