Biography
Matt Ebden, originally hailing from Durban, South Africa, showed an affinity for tennis from a very young age. Moving to Western Australia at the age of 12, he continued to nurture his passion for the sport. By five, he was already competing in his first tennis tournaments. His professional journey commenced in 2007 when he participated in the Australian Open qualifying rounds.
Matt's career is highlighted by impressive performances in grand slam tournaments, particularly in doubles. He captured the mixed doubles title at the 2013 Australian Open and later bagged the men’s doubles titles at the 2022 Wimbledon and the 2024 Australian Open. His singles career also boasts notable achievements such as a runner-up finish at the 2017 Hall of Fame Championships and reaching the third round at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. October 2018 saw him attain a career-high singles ranking of world No. 39.
In addition to his grand slam victories, Matt has enjoyed success on the ATP Tour, securing 11 doubles titles including wins at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters and the 2024 Miami Open. His ascent to the top of the doubles rankings in February 2024 was a historic milestone, making him the first Australian to secure the No. 1 spot since Todd Woodbridge in 2001.
