Biography
Born and raised in the small town of Lithgow in New South Wales, Lachlan Sharp's hockey journey began at a young age at his local club. At 13, he took a significant step by joining the Ryde Hockey Club, making long commutes for training, driven by a passion for the sport and familial support from his dad.
In 2016, Lachlan made his mark in the U21 Australian team 'The Burras' at the Hockey Junior World Cup in India. His ascent continued with a senior international debut in 2017 at the World League Final, where he and his team bagged the gold medal. Lachlan's knack for critical moments shone through when he netted the winning goal in the final of the 2018 Azlan Shah Cup.
2018 was a pivotal year for Lachlan as he played in his first Commonwealth Games, securing gold on home turf, followed by a triumph at the Champions Trophy in the Netherlands. The following year saw him helping the Kookaburras to victory in the FIH Pro League and leading the NSW Pride to win the inaugural Hockey One League.
Lachlan's Olympic debut came at Tokyo 2020, where he showcased his talent by scoring crucial goals, contributing to Australia's silver medal finish. However, a severe cycling accident in the Netherlands left him with a concussion, challenging his career and wellbeing.
Lachlan's resilience saw him through as he sought recovery, ultimately returning to the field and scoring for the Kookaburras again in the FIH Pro League. His drive remains strong, fueled by a love for the game and the camaraderie of his teammates, all aimed at clinching gold at the Paris Olympics.
Outside of hockey, Lachlan has transitioned from working in the Lithgow coal mines to pursuing an academic degree in commerce at Curtin University, alongside his work as a business analyst. His journey is a testament to determination, adaptability, and an unwavering spirit for both sport and personal growth.
