Biography
Lachlan Edwards, a native of East Melbourne, VIC, has water polo etched into his DNA. Growing up in a family with a strong water polo legacy—his father Robert Edwards being a former Aussie Shark, and his brother Blake, a current member—Lachlan was almost destined for the water polo pool.
Lachlan burst onto the international scene in 2012 at the World Youth Championships, helping Australia secure a seventh-place finish. His young career took a significant leap in 2013 when he debuted with the senior Aussie Sharks team at just 18 years old. The following year, Lachlan had the thrill of competing alongside his older brother Blake at the FINA World Cup, marking a pinnacle moment in his career.
Following high school, he pursued a business degree at the University of Southern California where he also excelled in water polo, scoring an impressive 144 goals between 2014 and 2017. Lachlan's international career continued to flourish as he represented Australia in the 2017 and 2019 World Championships, achieving commendable finishes for the team.
The pandemic-delayed Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021 marked Lachlan's Olympic debut, during which he experienced the highs and lows of international competition. Though Australia didn't make it to the knockout rounds, the experience only strengthened his resolve and dedication to the sport.
Since then, Lachlan has become a cornerstone of the Aussie Sharks, racking up over 100 caps for his national team. As he gears up for his second Olympic appearance in Paris 2024, Lachlan continues to play a vital role in the team's ongoing pursuits on the world stage.
