Biography
Kieran Woolley’s passion for both surfing and skateboarding started early in his youth. When he turned 10, his father built him a halfpipe in their backyard—a pivotal moment that pushed him further into skateboarding. By age 13, he was competing nationally and winning titles like King on Concrete St Kilda and the Skate Park League NSW Finals. A year later, Kieran was hailed as the Australian Junior Bowl riding champion and continued to impress in the open division, finishing sixth at the Continental Cup Global Series. In 2018, he placed fourth at the Oceania Continental Championships and was named Illawarra's Athlete of the Year. Despite breaking both his wrists in 2019, Kieran didn't let injuries sideline him. He competed at the Australian Park Skateboarding Nationals, finishing as a runner-up with both wrists in braces. His determination shone brightly at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he posted the second-highest qualifying score and finished fifth in the final. Perhaps one of the most memorable moments was when he collided with a cameraman during the finals, showing his sportsmanship by immediately checking on him and offering a fist bump. In 2022, Kieran had an outstanding year, clinching silver at the X Games Chiba and gold at the X Games California. He continued to make waves, finishing fourth at the World Park Skateboarding Championships in Sharjah and receiving a scholarship from the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Despite battling injuries in 2023, Kieran put in commendable performances, including a fourth-place finish at an Olympic qualifying event in Shanghai in May 2024.
