Biography
John Hedges seemed destined to play water polo from a young age, influenced by his sister Lilian Hedges, a former keeper for the Aussie Stingers. After excelling in high school, John moved to the USA to pursue a degree in business administration finance and play for the University of the Pacific in California. Making an immediate impact, he played 22 out of 24 matches during his freshman year in 2017, making 185 saves and earning a top place in conference steals per game.
John's talents were recognized on the international stage in 2019 at the FINA Junior World Championships. By his final season in 2021 with the Pacific Tigers, he secured his legacy with 227 saves, four assists, and 16 steals in 22 games.
Returning to Australia, John joined the UNSW Wests Tigers, helping them win the 2022 Australian Water Polo League. His impressive performance earned him a spot on the Aussie Sharks for the 2022 FINA World Championships. Later that year, John signed with CN Sant Andreu in Barcelona, where he continues to thrive.
An integral part of the Australian team, John participated in the 2023 FINA World Cup and the 2023 and 2024 FINA World Championships. With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the horizon, John Hedges is a name to watch in the world of water polo.
