Biography
Jessica Stenson, formerly known as Jessica Trengove, is a highly accomplished marathon runner from Australia. She has represented her country at multiple Olympic Games, including London 2012 and Rio 2016. Growing up in the sport-loving town of Naracoorte, Jessica was actively involved in numerous sports such as netball, basketball, tennis, and athletics. Her athletic journey took a significant turn after meeting her idol, Benita Willis, in 2000, which inspired her to focus more on running.
Jessica made an impressive marathon debut in 2012, clocking a time of 2:31.02 at the Nagoya Women’s Marathon, the fastest debut by an Australian at that time. This performance earned her a spot on the Australian Olympic team for the London 2012 Games. She continued to excel in her career, securing a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and representing Australia once again at the Rio 2016 Olympics, despite overcoming a stress fracture injury.
Her tenacity shone through as she set a personal best of 2:25.15 in the Melbourne Marathon in 2021, which qualified her for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She went on to make history at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games by becoming the first woman to win three consecutive medals in the Commonwealth Games marathon.
Jessica’s journey includes balancing her athletic career with motherhood. After giving birth to her son Billy in 2019, she faced challenges but remained determined to continue competing at the highest level. Her perseverance paid off with a new personal best of 2:24:01 at the Daegu Marathon in 2024, following the birth of her second child, Ellie, in 2023.
