Jaclyn Barclay, hailing from Everton Park and now swimming for St Peters Western in Brisbane, is making waves in the swimming world. At just 17, Jaclyn has quickly become one of Australia's promising young backstrokers, joining a new generation of talent emerging in the sport.
She made headlines at the 2024 World Aquatic Championships in Doha, where she unexpectedly competed with the top-tier athletes. Jaclyn delivered an outstanding performance, finishing fourth in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 200m backstroke, clocking a personal best of 2:07:03.
Jaclyn's rise to prominence began earlier, with a stellar showcase at the 2023 World Junior Swimming Championships in Israel, where she secured gold in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 50m backstroke. Her contributions also helped clinch a gold in the women's 4x100m medley relay and a silver in the mixed 4x100m medley relay.
Her dedication and stellar performances continued, with a milestone achievement at the Queensland Championships in December 2023. There, Jaclyn smashed her personal record in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:08.76, outpacing her competitors and knocking nearly three seconds off her previous best.
