Biography
Chaz Poot, hailing from Bankstown, discovered his love for the water early on by clinching a state gold medal in nippers. By the time he turned 14, the Cronulla local had taken up water polo, blending his passion for water with a competitive spirit. Years of dedication through the Sutherland Shire Water Polo Association and NSW Institute of Sport paved the way for his momentous rise in the sport. His breakout came in 2016 at the Junior World Championships, where he scored 12 goals across seven games, establishing himself as an essential player for the junior national team.
The Sydney University Lions welcomed Chaz in 2018, where he triumphed in the Australian Water Polo League. Post-pandemic, he made his senior debut at the 2022 FINA World League Intercontinental Cup, significantly contributing to Australia’s second-place finish. His prowess was further showcased across 17 World Championship games from 2022 to 2024 and the 2023 FINA World Cup in Los Angeles. This success led him to an international stint with CN Sant Andreu in Barcelona.
Chaz’s journey hasn't been without hurdles, overcoming two stress fractures in his back. Despite these setbacks, he remained a key figure in the Aussie Sharks. Inspired by dual Olympian John Cotterill, Chaz Poot’s story is one of resilience, dedication, and passion.
