Brin Liddell (AU)
Biography
Brin Liddell has been passionate about sailing since childhood, a passion he shares with his longtime friend and Nacra 17 crewmate Rhiannan Brown. Together, they have navigated through the complexities of competitive sailing, never losing their cool even in the face of challenges. It’s easy to see why – Brin got started in the sport thanks to his parents and has been hooked ever since.
He first made waves learning to sail a Sabot at the Hunters Hill Sailing Club on Sydney Harbour and claimed victory at the 2016 Sabot Australian Nationals. Not one to rest on his laurels, Brin was also active in sailing a Flying 11 at Lake Macquarie around the same time.
In 2017, he transitioned to the Nacra 15, an important step on the youth Olympic pathway. A year later, he and his brother Jake showcased their talents at the Nacra 15 European Championships in Italy, placing a commendable ninth.
Teaming up with Rhiannan in 2019, Brin took on the role of skipper while Rhiannan managed the crewing duties. The duo clinched 14th place at the Nacra 15 World Championships in France and went on to win the Australian Nacra 15 Nationals in Victoria.
Taking their game to the next level, Brin and Rhiannan transitioned to the Olympic-class Nacra 17 in 2020. They hit the international circuit by 2022, competing in events in Denmark and Canada, where they earned respectable positions. The year 2023 marked another milestone as they clinched third place at the Nacra 17 Junior Worlds.
Their journey continued with a win at the Sail Sydney regatta, securing a spot for the Paris Olympics. As they set their sights on the 2024 Princesa Sofia Regatta, Brin and Rhiannan narrowly missed the medal race by just one point, demonstrating their tenacity and potential for future successes.
