Biography
Brianna Throssell, hailing from Subiaco, WA, made a sensational entry into the world of competitive swimming at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, clinching seven bronze medals. Her dynamic performances soon earned her a place in the Australian swim team for the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she impressed by making it to the finals in the 200m butterfly event.
Continuing her stride, Brianna's determination and prowess led to a stellar showing at the 2018 Commonwealth Games with a bronze in the 200m butterfly and a gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay. Her journey picked up momentum at the 2019 FINA World Championships, where she was part of the gold-winning 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relay teams.
In 2021, Brianna clinched the national title in the 200m butterfly, securing her spot for Tokyo 2020. There, she stood out in relay events, securing three medals, including gold in the 4x100m medley relay. She carried this spirit forward into 2022, contributing to Australia's medal tally at the World Championships and adding more accolades at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
An integral part of the Australian team, Brianna was key in setting a world record in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka. Her impressive performances continued at the 2024 World Championships in Doha, where she added six more medals to her collection. At the 2024 Australian Open Championships, she showcased her grit by setting a personal best in the 100m butterfly and securing her place for Paris 2024.
