Blake Edwards
Blake Edwards (AU)
Biography
Blake Edwards, a Melbourne native, was inspired by his father and began playing water polo at age 12. His early promise was evident when he represented Australia at the FINA World Junior Championships in 2009, and by 18, he debuted for the senior Aussie Sharks team. Leadership came naturally to Blake, as he captained the national team at the 2013 and 2015 World University Games.
Overcoming the setback of being omitted from the national squad in 2012, Blake returned with vigor at the 2014 FINA World Cup. Following his brother Lachlan, Blake expanded his horizons by joining the University of Southern California’s water polo team. He made an immediate impact, finishing his first season as the leading goal scorer and receiving All-American First Team accolades.
Blake's tenure at USC cemented his reputation as he ended his college career with 156 goals, ranking as the university's ninth all-time leading scorer. Injuries briefly sidelined him, but by 2018, he was back with the Aussie Sharks, competing in international tournaments such as the FINA World League Super Final and World Cup.
Returning to Australia, Blake played for the Drummoyne Devils alongside his brother, preparing for his Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games. As captain, he led the team, scoring crucial goals, even though they didn’t advance past the group stage. Since Tokyo, Blake has been a key figure for Australia, co-captaining in several major championships.
Looking forward to Paris 2024, Blake Edwards remains a cornerstone of the Aussie Sharks, bringing experience, leadership, and an unyielding passion for the sport.
