Biography
Annabelle McIntyre's journey in rowing has been nothing short of phenomenal. Hailing from Subiaco in Western Australia, she honed her skills at the Fremantle Rowing Club. Early successes at the U23 World Rowing Championships paved the way for greater accolades at senior levels, where she clinched silver medals in both women's pair and women's eight in 2019.
Her exemplary performance earned her a spot at Rowing Australia’s National Training Centre. Under the coaching of John Keogh, Tom Westgarth, and Ellen Randell, Annabelle became an integral part of the Australian women’s eight crew. Her persistence and hard work led to multiple podium finishes at World Championships and World Rowing Cups.
Annabelle's Olympic debut came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she played a crucial role as the stroke of the Australian women’s four. The team, including Jessica Morrison, Rosemary Popa, and Lucy Stephan, achieved a historic gold medal victory, marking the event's return to the Games since 1992. In a memorable ‘hour of power,’ Australian rowing crews secured four medals, contributing to the nation's remarkable Olympic success.
Following this triumph, Annabelle continued to push the boundaries. She participated in the women's pair and the women's coxless four, earning further distinctions, including a gold medal at World Cup II in Poznan in 2022 and a bronze at the World Rowing Championships in Racice.
As the 2023 season unfolded, Annabelle, along with her crewmate Jessica, secured victories at World Cup II and III, and earned silver at the World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, solidifying their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Annabelle's story is a testament to dedication, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in the sport of rowing.
