Biography
Alyce Wood, a formidable force in Australian canoe sprinting, has carved out a remarkable career on the water. Growing up on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, her initial dream was to become an Ironwoman, but at 15, she discovered her true passion for kayaking. Since then, she has never looked back. Alyce's dedication and talent quickly made her a standout, securing her first international triumph with a gold medal in the K2 500 metres at the Under 23 World Championships in 2015 alongside her partner Aly Bull. Her Olympic journey began at the Rio 2016 Games, where she fought gallantly in the K2 500m, reaching the A-finals and finishing eighth. She continued to excel, capturing her first World Championship title in the K1 1000 in 2017 and amassing an impressive collection of world cup medals in various disciplines. Off the water, Alyce has achieved academic success with a Bachelor's degree in Communications and a Master's in Business Administration. Additionally, she has ventured into the business world by running a digital marketing firm focused on helping small businesses. Alyce's determination saw her return to elite competition just eight months after the birth of her daughter, Florence, in 2022. Her tenacity paid off when she secured a quota spot for Australia in the K1 500m at the world championships, setting her sights firmly on Paris 2024.
