Caroline Simpson wishes to extend a warm invitation to the sports community on behalf of Ashtanga Bristol, a modest yoga school on Gloucester Road, Bristol. Since 2015, Caroline has been leading daily classes, devoted to preserving the traditional practise of Ashtanga Yoga. This therapeutic form of yoga is taught both individually and in groups, aiming to nurture a healthy body and mind.
Caroline, an Authorised (Level 2) Ashtanga Yoga teacher, runs classes from Sunday to Friday, with Saturdays and Moondays off. Ashtanga Bristol welcomes everyone, regardless of age or ability. For any queries or to schedule your first class, you can reach Caroline at caroline@ashtangabristol.com.
During the Christmas period, classes will run as usual until Friday, 22nd December. The school will be shut for the following week, with no Sunday Shala on 24th and 31st December. However, there will be a special class on New Year's Day from 7.30am to 10am. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, 2nd January.
In April 2024, Caroline is organising a weekend retreat in the Cotswolds. Those interested in more details and booking should get in touch with her directly.
Ashtanga Yoga, a breath-focused yoga practise, is suitable for people of all body types, backgrounds, and ages. It comprises eight limbs, including postures, ethical guidelines, and meditation, among others. Building a strong foundation through the initial limbs is crucial.
The primary series of yoga asana, known as yoga therapy, aims to realign the body. Each pose is learned individually, ensuring understanding and integration before moving on. This gradual approach helps prevent injury and fosters a lasting practise.
The primary series might take months or years to complete, underscoring the importance of patience and consistency. Once integrated, practitioners can progress to the intermediate series, focusing on the nervous system, and eventually to the advanced series, which enhances strength and stability. The focus is on finding suitable poses and approaching challenges with patience and concentration.
At Ashtanga Bristol's shala, students of all levels practise together, receiving personalised one-on-one instruction. They arrive at their chosen time, roll out their mats, and begin practising as taught.
Caroline's goal is to provide a welcoming environment for all, enabling everyone to explore and deepen their yoga practise at their own pace.
