Arena Boxing Bournemouth is more than just a boxing club – it is a voluntary run, not for profit, England Boxing affiliated youth organisation that aims to provide a friendly, disciplined, and safe environment for young people of all ages and backgrounds to learn and develop key life skills through boxing. The club was established in 2014 and has since produced National Champions and International boxers for both Team GB and England. However, its impact goes beyond the boxing ring, as it has also helped numerous young individuals get a foothold in life, with many of its members going on to pursue higher education, serve in the HM forces, or enter apprenticeships.
At Arena Boxing Bournemouth, the sport of boxing is seen as an extremely powerful development tool for young people. It teaches discipline, respect for others and self, and the importance of hard work and effort in achieving success. The club emphasises that just like in life, there are no shortcuts to achievement. Through training at the gym, youngsters quickly grasp the values and lessons that are applicable both inside and outside the ring.
The gym itself is well-appointed and offers a range of training equipment suitable for all levels of boxers. Members have access to a large and small boxing ring, numerous heavy bags, slipping balls, floor to ceiling balls, spar bars, strength and conditioning equipment, plyometric equipment, and specialised boxing fitness equipment. The club also offers opportunities for members to compete at various tournaments in the UK and Europe, such as The Haringey Box Cup, The Golden Girls Championship, and the England Boxings National Championships.
The coaching team at Arena Boxing Bournemouth is a key strength of the club. All coaches are England Boxing certified and bring years of experience in boxing and teaching to their roles. Each coach has a unique story of how they found boxing and their individuality and passion for the sport adds to the overall team dynamic. In addition to their coaching qualifications, all Arena coaches hold enhanced DBS checks, are fully qualified first-aiders, and have undergone child safeguarding training.
What sets Arena Boxing Bournemouth apart from other clubs is its unique relationship with its boxers. The coaches see themselves as more than just teachers or parents – they are mentors and supporters who are there to celebrate the achievements and goals reached by their boxers, as well as provide comfort and guidance during times of difficulty. The central message from the coaching team is consistent: work hard, believe in yourself, and be respectful to others.
In today's challenging times for young people, Arena Boxing Bournemouth offers a beacon of stability and positivity. With the pressures of fitting in intensified by social media, and issues like substance abuse, knife crime, and anti-social behaviour on the rise, the club provides a solid and consistent message of hard work and respect. This message gives status to its young members within their peer group and helps build strength of character and resilience.
Whether you are a young person looking to learn to box or a supporter of youth development, Arena Boxing Bournemouth offers a welcoming and supportive community. Join them on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram to stay updated on the latest news and opportunities to get involved.
