Our aim is not to fight or struggle in any perceived conflict, and we approach situations with calmness and an intention to move beyond what we'd otherwise struggle with. We also practise Wing Chun Kung Fu as a realistic martial art with practical skills in self defence.

How do you structure training and progression?

We practice with relaxation and seek improvement by investigating the forms as a means to self educate, rather than repetition and drilling. We do not use belts or sashes, and there are no gradings or similar, with progress monitored and feedback given at each session.

Led by Sifu Paul Roughead, who has been studying and training in martial arts for over 30 years, primarily in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Appletree Wing Chun is affiliated with Newcastle Wing Chun. Sifu Roughead has trained under various instructors but considers Sifu Peter May his Si Gung.

To inquire about joining Appletree Wing Chun, individuals can reach out via email or visit their training facility at the Walkerville Community Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne. Lesson prices are 7 per session or 20 for four sessions, with an option for private one-on-one lessons for 18 per hour. All payments are made in advance, and lessons run consecutively.
