Aldersbrook Riding School is a small riding school and livery stables located in East London, near Wanstead Park. With over 40 years of experience, we have built a strong reputation as a friendly yard with a focus on community. Our goal is to provide riding lessons and horse care education to the local community, offering both children and adults the opportunity to learn about horses and develop their riding skills.
Our location next to Wanstead Park gives us access to forest land, allowing for lead rein rides and short hacks. Additionally, we are just five minutes away from Wanstead Flats and Epping Forest, providing beautiful off-road hacking trails. We have both a large indoor school and an outdoor arena, ensuring all-weather riding facilities for our riders.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced rider, our instructors are dedicated to helping you build confidence and improve your skills with horses. We aim to create an enjoyable and supportive environment for all levels and ages of riders. For those new to horse riding, we can supply hats and boots to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
At Aldersbrook Riding School, we offer a variety of activities for children and courses for adults. Many schools, including homeschooling groups, bring groups of children for regular lessons during term time. Additionally, we have experience in teaching and supporting individuals with special educational needs, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and mobility issues.
Our history dates back to 1973 when the riding school was founded. Over the years, we expanded to meet the demands of the community, adding a livery stables and a large indoor school. In 2013, we celebrated our 40th anniversary with an event attended by over 600 people, including Paralympics dressage gold medallist Sophie Christiansen as a star guest.
We believe in giving back to the community and have developed various initiatives to provide learning opportunities. These include volunteering programmes that allow individuals to learn about horse and stable management. We have also extended our services to groups such as local schools, pupil referral units, and people looking to “Take back the reins.
In April 2017, the original owner retired, and Steven Kiley, an instructor at Aldersbrook for five years, took over the business. With the support of the local community, he has continued to grow and maintain the riding school during challenging times.
