Albury Skate Park, located on David Street in Albury, is a state-of-the-art facility that is set to become a hub for skateboarders and riders in the region. The park was officially opened on 11 December 2021 after months of construction.
The design of Albury Skate Park was heavily influenced by input from skateboarders and the wider community, gathered through a 'Have a Say' process and other feedback channels in 2018 and 2019. Working closely with skate park design specialists, PLAYCE, and skate/BMX enthusiasts, the park has been carefully designed to offer something for skaters and riders of all levels.
The park features two covered bowls, one catering to beginners and the other designed for more advanced riders. These bowls provide an exhilarating experience for skaters looking to perfect their skills. Additionally, the park boasts an extensive street skating section that mimics the urban environment, allowing skaters to practise tricks and manoeuvres commonly seen in the streets.
In addition to the skateboarding areas, Albury Skate Park also offers an outdoor half basketball court, catering to individuals who may prefer other recreational activities. This court provides a space for basketball enthusiasts to shoot hoops and engage in friendly games.
For those interested in exploring additional forms of physical activity, Albury Skate Park also includes a dedicated fitness and parkour area. This section of the park is designed to challenge individuals with various obstacles and structures, allowing them to test their strength, agility, and creativity.
Funding for the construction of Albury Skate Park was made possible through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund Round three, which contributed an impressive $636,511 to the project.
The construction process began in April 2021, with work continuing diligently to bring the vision of the park to life. Throughout the process, updates were provided to keep the community informed of the progress being made. Elements such as picnic shelters, skate elements, and parkour areas have been constructed, adding to the overall appeal and functionality of the park.
With the completion of Albury Skate Park, the city of Albury is set to become a renowned destination for skaters and riders from near and far. This world-class facility offers a diverse range of features and challenges, ensuring that all visitors can find enjoyment and thrills within its bounds. Whether it's grinding the rails, landing tricks in the bowls, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, Albury Skate Park is a must-visit destination for anyone passionate about skateboarding and extreme sports.
