Motutere / Castle Rock, the climbing club in Waiau, invites all climbing enthusiasts to join them for an exciting local climbing event at Albert Terrace. This small crag, nestled in the suburbs of Christchurch, offers a fantastic climbing experience suitable for climbers of all levels.
Whether you are a beginner looking to venture into outdoor climbing or a seasoned climber seeking a new challenge, Albert Terrace has something to offer. With climbs under grade 20, this spot is perfect for those making the transition from indoor to outdoor climbing. However, do keep in mind that the rock at Albert Terrace may be polished and might have some pine needles and dirt on it. So, come prepared.
To make the most of your climbing experience at Albert Terrace, remember to bring a maximum of eight quickdraws for the climbs. If you prefer top roping, don't forget to bring along two carabiners. The crag has been designed to ensure a user-friendly experience, with double rings installed at the top of each climb and sets of ring bolts at ground level for practice.
Originally established in 1997, Albert Terrace has undergone retro-bolting for convenience and safety over the years. It now provides a safe and enjoyable environment for climbers to explore their love for the sport. And if you're up for an extra challenge, make sure to check out the three bolted routes in the first cave, perfect for dry tooling practice.
Finding Albert Terrace is a breeze. Located in the suburb of St Martins, it can be reached by following Albert Terrace until the road comes to an end. Once you've parked your vehicle, a short 10-minute walk on the lower valley track will lead you to the main crag. So, lace up those climbing shoes, grab your gear, and get ready for a thrilling day of climbing at Albert Terrace with Motutere / Castle Rock!
