At Abingdon Didcot Martial Arts Shotokan Karate Clubs, they believe in making martial arts accessible for everyone. Based in Abingdon, UK, this club specialises in Shotokan Karate and offers classes for all ages and skill levels. It's an ideal place for beginners and families to boost their balance, coordination, self-confidence, and discipline.
Gursharan Sahota is the driving force behind the club. Originally from Kenya, he moved to the UK early on and picked up karate at 14. Now an 8th Dan black belt with experience in national and international competitions, Gursharan's life changed after training in Japan with Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa in 1984. This inspired him to dedicate his life to karate and teaching it.
Gursharan founded his first club in Luton/Dunstable in 1981, which later became the HQ for TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association) he founded in 1993. TISKA is now one of the biggest associations in the UK. Gursharan teaches over 35 classes weekly and leads master classes internationally, helping hundreds reach black belt and beyond.
Apart from teaching, Gursharan is dedicated to charity work. He subsidises trips for surgeons to operate on underprivileged children in third-world countries and funds projects in India, including constructing a new school.
