Paul James extends a warm invitation to the Aberystwyth sports community on behalf of the Aberystwyth Karate Club - Ikkyo Dojo. Based in Aberystwyth, the club is all about providing top-notch karate training for both adults and children. You'll find a great team of experienced instructors ready to support you in honing your martial arts skills.
Due to the twists and turns of Covid-19, Paul and the team now run classes six days a week across various spots. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays are at Penryncoch Village Hall. Thursdays, head over to Neuadd Rhydypennau in Bow Street. On Saturdays, the Kids Class takes place at Buarth Hall, and Sundays see a mix of sessions at the Waunfawr Community Centre. Drop Paul an email at [email protected] if you're interested or need more details.
For university students, the Ikkyo Dojo at Aberystwyth University is the place to be, though it's exclusive to you lot. Everyone else is welcome to join in at the Penweddig Dojo. The club stands for fitness, self-esteem, self-defence, self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-discipline, values instilled in every student.
Over the years, the club has racked up impressive achievements. Back in June 2014, they bagged nine medals at the KUGB Welsh Region Championships. The club is proud of its talented students who consistently shine in competitions.
To recognise hard work, the "Student of the Month" programme is in place. Hats off to Steven Bailey for "Best Adult," Millie Hore and Thomas Cowhig for "Best Young Senior Grade," and Alex Devonport as "Best Young Junior Grade."
The club's talents extend to the international stage too. Representing Wales, Meleri Pryse and Steven Bailey competed at the ESKA European Championships in Portugal. With Chief Instructor and Welsh Squad Kata Coach Paul James by their side, Meleri snagged a silver in Cadet individual Kata and a bronze in Junior Team Kumite. Steven also made waves, reaching the final round in Junior Male Kata.
Paul James and the team welcome anyone interested in karate, no matter your age or experience. The club's supportive environment is perfect for developing your skills and building self-confidence.
