Dave from Aberdeen Aikido, also known as Saku-Mei Kan, invites you to join their martial arts classes in Aberdeen, Scotland. Part of the Scottish and Borders Birankai under T. K Chiba Shihan's guidance, they teach Aikido, a Japanese martial art centred on self-defence and self-development. Aikido uses evasion, immobilisation, and throws to control an attacker's aggression without relying on physical strength, making it suitable for everyone.
Aberdeen Aikido welcomes folks of all backgrounds and offers classes for beginners to advanced practitioners, including weapons training. Classes are held at the Inchgarth Community Centre every Tuesday and Friday from 18:30 to 20:30. Your first session is free. After that, classes are £5 for waged individuals and £2.50 for students and the unwaged. You can also opt for a £25 monthly direct debit for all classes.
Additionally, there's an annual membership fee for the Scottish and Borders Birankai, which is £35 for adults and £25 for students/unwaged, covering insurance through the British Aikido Board.
At each class, traditional Japanese formalities are observed to show respect to the origins of Aikido. You'll bow to the Kamiza and the Sensei, maintaining a respectful environment throughout.
Aberdeen Aikido also offers Iaido classes, where you can learn the art of sword drawing. This practice helps improve your understanding of the weapon and provides a unique physical challenge, often referred to as moving zen.
