We are YHA Bushwalking Club, an activity group affiliated with YHA Australia and a Bushwalking Victoria Associate. Based in Melbourne, our club has been dedicated to bushwalking since 1939. We welcome individuals aged 18 and above, regardless of their fitness levels or prior experience in bushwalking. Our members and visitors come from diverse backgrounds and are mostly within the 35-65 age range.
We are passionate about minimal impact bushwalking and emphasise the preservation of natural environments. To encourage accessibility, we provide car-pooling options for those without vehicles.
Our club offers a variety of walks and activities. We have an extensive programme featuring day walks, weekend walks, and even extended walks for those seeking a more challenging adventure. Our walks are led by experienced volunteer leaders who ensure a structured and enjoyable experience for all participants. The locations of our walks vary, ranging from urban trails to national parks and iconic long-distance trails in Australia and New Zealand.
In addition to our regular walks, we hold monthly club nights where members and visitors can connect with experienced leaders, fellow walkers, and committee members. These club nights provide an opportunity to select upcoming walks, mingle with like-minded individuals, and make new friends. We also organise social events as part of our programme.
If you're new to our club, you have the option to join as a visitor multiple times before becoming a member. As a visitor, you'll pay a small fee per walk and additional car-pooling costs. When you're ready to join as a member, our quick start guide will assist you in finding the right walk for your interests and abilities.
Membership benefits include free walks (excluding car-pooling costs), priority bookings for events, discounted fees for select social activities, and voting rights at our annual general meeting.
At YHA Bushwalking Club, we believe in respecting the land and culture of the Traditional Custodians of the areas where we walk. We acknowledge their connexions to the land and water and pay our respects to their elders, both past and present.
Our club operates under the guidance of an elected committee, led by President Adnan Lovic. The committee follows the Rules for the Conduct of YHA Bushwalking Victoria and our Code of Conduct, ensuring the smooth operation of our club and adherence to our values.
