Whitehorse Canoe Club is a whitewater touring club based in Melbourne, Victoria. Established in 1969, the club has a rich history of paddling adventures and is known for its sense of adventure and exploration. The club runs trips on both local and interstate rivers, catering to paddlers of all skill levels.
The club offers a range of trips, from short beginner trips to multi-day expeditions on higher grade rivers. Some trips have become annual events, such as the Mitchell River trip on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. This trip involves base camping, a spit roast, and offers terrific paddling opportunities for both experienced paddlers and families.
The North Eastern Rivers trip is another popular annual trip, allowing paddlers to leisurely explore many Victorian rivers. The Snowy River trip, which takes place on the Melbourne Cup weekend, is a must for paddlers, with its warm water, sandy beaches, great rapids, and beautiful scenery.
Whitehorse Canoe Club also organises interstate trips, including trips to the Franklin River in Tasmania and several rivers in New South Wales and Queensland. The club has even ventured to the South Island of New Zealand for paddling adventures.
As a club, Whitehorse Canoe Club acknowledges and pays respect to the traditional owners of the lands on which they paddle. They recognise the deep connexions and ongoing living cultures of Australia's First Peoples.
If you're interested in joining the Whitehorse Canoe Club, you can get involved in their trips by joining their Google email group and/or the Whitehorse Canoe Club members-only Facebook page. The club also offers rescue practise sessions on the Yarra River, focusing on various skills such as river crossing, ropes and knots, throw bagging, and boat rescue.
Whitehorse Canoe Club is a not-for-profit incorporated association, and their mission is to provide paddling opportunities for all skill levels while fostering a sense of adventure and respect for the natural environment.
