Whale Beach SLSC is a renowned sports club situated on the stunning Whale Beach in Sydney's Northern Beaches. Founded in 1937, this small but dedicated team of surf life savers patrol the beach every weekend and public holidays from September through to April. Their main mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of all beachgoers while providing a strong sense of community.
The club takes pride in its excellence in surf safety and education, offering various training courses for members and the wider community. Whale Beach SLSC believes that the diversity of its community is its strength, with all members working together to keep the beach safe for everyone. The club welcomes individuals from all walks of life and encourages them to connect, train hard, and feel a sense of belonging.
Whale Beach SLSC offers a variety of membership options, catering to different interests and skill sets. Whether you want to lend a hand flipping burgers on the deck, organise social events, provide first aid assistance, or showcase your surfing skills on a board, ski, or IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat), there is a place for you at Whale Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
The club is proud to be home to a multi-storied clubhouse that is owned by its members, rather than the local council. All active and associate members have full access to the club's first-class facilities, including sleeping accommodation, full bathroom and kitchen amenities, a gym, and board and ski storage. Whale Beach SLSC currently has around 200 active and reserve active members, as well as approximately 130 supporting associate family members.
Whale Beach itself is a picturesque and popular beach located on the northern peninsula of Sydney's Northern Beaches. With its 600-metre length, it offers plenty of space for beach activities and enjoyment. The beach is accessed via the scenic and winding Whale Beach Road, followed by a steep descent to the beachfront reserve. This reserve includes a large car park, a picnic area, and even a rock pool on the southern rock platform.
The beach's energetic surf zone, with waves averaging 1. 6 metres, provides the perfect environment for surfers and water sports enthusiasts. However, it is important to note that the surf zone is dominated by a single bar, which is always cut by three to four rips. This makes it crucial for surf life savers to be vigilant and ready to respond to any potential dangers or emergencies.
Whale Beach SLSC is a thriving and community-minded sports club, embraced by the locals and visitors alike. They host various events throughout the year, including the iconic Big Swim and other ocean swims. The club is proud to be sponsored by a number of local businesses who share their commitment to surf safety and community support.
If you are looking for a place to connect, train, and belong while making a positive impact in your community, Whale Beach SLSC is the perfect choice. Join them today and become a part of this passionate team of surf life savers who are dedicated to keeping the beach safe for everyone.
