West Torrens Lacrosse Club, now known as Eagles Lacrosse, is a well-established sports club in Adelaide, South Australia. The club was formed in 1914 and has a rich history in the lacrosse community. Originally located in the northwestern suburbs of Adelaide, Eagles Lacrosse is now based in Prospect, with their home ground and club rooms at Charles Cane Reserve on Churchill Road.
Eagles Lacrosse caters to a wide range of players, from boys and girls to men and women, ranging in age from 5 to 60+. The club welcomes players of all skill levels, from beginners to those returning to the sport. They offer both field lacrosse, which is played during the Australian winter from May to September, and indoor non-contact mixed lacrosse, which is played from October to December and February to April. The club also holds come and try days in April-May and school clinics in Term 1 to introduce new and returning players to the sport.
The club takes pride in its family-oriented approach and has a long-standing commitment to providing a recreational outlet for generations of individuals in the Western suburbs of Adelaide. In the late 70s, the club faced challenges but managed to overcome them with the dedication of core members. They developed a group of juniors and talented senior players, leading the A-Grade West Torrens team to become a dominant force in the game for over a decade. With ten consecutive league grand final appearances from 1990 to 1999, the Eagles had six topship victories, including two three-peat successes.
The club set an Australian record for consecutive wins at the league level, with 69 wins from 1991 to 1994.
Eagles Lacrosse has also been successful in developing players who have gone on to compete at the interstate and international levels. Numerous players from the club have represented the state at junior and senior levels, and there have been West Torrens players in every senior Australian team since 1994. The club's players have also been recognised for their leadership skills, with two players being named captain of the senior Australian men's teams in 1998 and 2002.
Training for Eagles Lacrosse takes place at their club on Tuesdays and Thursdays. U8 and U11 boys and girls train on Thursday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, while U13 girls have training on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
Overall, Eagles Lacrosse Club is a thriving and inclusive sports club in Adelaide, offering opportunities for individuals of all ages and skill levels to participate in the exciting game of lacrosse.
