There are more than four variations recognised but today it is referred to as the closed hold position waltz. This waltz has dancers constantly turning either toward their leader's right, known as 'natural' or toward the left known as 'reverse'. Incorporated are non-rotating steps to switch and change the direction of the rotation. Today the Viennese Waltz is identified by the International Standard division of contemporary ballroom dance as a partner and ballroom module.
