Established in 1960, the Tuna Club of Tasmania has a rich history. It was founded as a result of a meeting held in Hobart in September 1960 by a group of individuals interested in forming a Game Fishing Club. A subcommittee was formed to draught a constitution, and on October 6, 1960, the Inaugural Meeting was held at Wrest Point Hotel. The club's first president, Mr.
J E Stanton, along with other elected officials, laid the foundation for the club's future success.
From its early years, the Tuna Club of Tasmania garnered a strong reputation among anglers. Two world records were granted to women anglers within the first two years of its establishment, with one of them still standing as an Australian record. The club also played a significant role in promoting game fishing, establishing various weigh stations across the state to accommodate the growing interest in the sport.
The club has also been affiliated with the Tasmanian Game Fishing Association since 1963, enabling its members to claim Australian and world records for game fish species. The Tuna Club of Tasmania boasts a large core group of members based in the Derwent Valley and has consistently achieved more records than any other club in Tasmania.
For those interested in joining the Tuna Club of Tasmania, information on membership and the benefits it offers can be found on the club's website.
