Swan Hill Motor Racing Club is a renowned sports club located in Swan Hill Rural City, Australia. Founded in the 1958-1959 season by five passionate speedway enthusiasts, the club has been a prominent hub for motorsports in the region.
Although informal speedway events were held prior to the club's formation, it was in 1958-1959 that the Swan Hill Motor Racing Club was officially established. Numerous speedway enthusiasts would gather at places like Tyntynder Flats and Pearce's Lake to engage in exhilarating races on makeshift tracks. These events were filled with excitement and adrenaline, despite the absence of safety measures that are commonplace today.
The establishment of the Swan Hill Motor Racing Club brought a sense of professionalism to speedway racing in the region. The founding members of the club, Don Grant, Ken Neyland, Roy Bacon, Brian Domaille, and Richard Burkett, laid the foundation for a thriving motorsports community.
In addition to the local grassroots races in Swan Hill, Koondrook, located 60 kilometres southeast of Swan Hill, served as an influential Sister Track for many local drivers. These early years of the club and speedway racing in Swan Hill created lasting memories for both participants and spectators alike.
Over the years, the Swan Hill Motor Racing Club has grown in popularity and attracts a diverse range of drivers and fans from all over the region. The club hosts regular race meetings and has become a significant fixture in the motorsports calendar of Swan Hill and its surrounding areas.
The club's website, which has been maintained by a dedicated webmaster for the past 15 years, will be closing in August as the webmaster has decided to step down. The club is currently searching for a new webmaster to continue providing updates and information to its members and the wider community.
Admission prices for race meetings vary, with adults priced at $25, children between the ages of 10 and 16 priced at $10, and children under 10 being admitted for free. Pensioners can enter for $20, while families consisting of two adults and two children can enter for $60. It is important to note that dogs are not allowed on the premises.
Competing drivers must obtain a VSC One Day Licence and Pit Levy for a fee of $75, or alternatively, a VSC One Day Pit Pass for $35. Online purchase of a Speedway Australia Pit Levy, along with the additional $20 pit levy for ladies in the pit box, is also available.
The Swan Hill Motor Racing Club continues to thrive and evolve, and its dedicated committee, led by President Hayden Glare and assisted by a team of passionate individuals, works diligently to ensure the success and growth of the club.
