Surf boat racing is a national pastime in Australia where boats are propelled by rowing over waves and out past the breakers. Boats are compromised of four rowers and one sweep who tries to safely navigate past the waves. Before boats with engines, surf boats were the primary rescue method for stranded swimmers.
