Sporting Shooters Pistol Club Inc (SSPC) is a sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. As a sub-club of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) Range Springvale, SSPC is dedicated to promoting and facilitating safe and enjoyable handgun target shooting.
SSPC offers a range of target shooting disciplines for members to participate in. One such discipline is the 10M Air Pistol. Similar to the 10 metre air rifle, this discipline involves shooting with 4. 5 mm calibre air guns at a distance of 10 metres.
The programme consists of 60 shots within 75 minutes for men and 40 shots within 50 minutes for women. If the Electronic Scoring System (EST) is not available, extra time is added to the time limit.
Another discipline offered by SSPC is the Australian Police Service Match (APSM). This discipline focuses on competitive shooting of law enforcement-oriented Australian and international handgun matches. It involves the use of centrefire revolvers and self-loading pistols, which are shot at various targets from various distances and positions.
SSPC also offers the IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) discipline. This is a widely practised international discipline that involves shooting matches in over 52 countries. Local, state, national, regional, and international championships take place regularly in this discipline.
In addition, SSPC provides opportunities for members to participate in ISSF 25M matches, which involve the use of rimfire . 22LR and Centre Fire pistols shot at a standard ISSF target from a distance of 25M. The club also offers Metallic Silhouette, a discipline with a rich history dating back to the early 1900s, and Single Action or “Cowboy” Shooting, where contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the Old West.
To ensure the safety and compliance of its members, SSPC provides guidance on firearms and legislation, purchasing handguns, securing firearms, and renewing membership. The club also offers an introduction to handguns course, a junior shooter programme, and training for obtaining a handgun licence.
SSPC operates as a sub-club of the SSAA Range Springvale, conveniently located at 714–716 Princes Hwy in Springvale, opposite Sandown Raceway.
