The Sanctuary Lakes Netball Club is a vibrant sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 2009 by local residents of Sanctuary Lakes and Point Cook, the club's primary goal is to promote community spirit and encourage children to engage in physical activity, have fun, and be part of a team.
Since its inception, the club has experienced significant growth. In the first season, there was only one team of 10 girls in the Under 13's category. However, as of February 2022, the club boasts an impressive 19 junior teams ranging from Under 9's to Under 17's, competing on Saturday afternoons. Additionally, there are three ladies teams that participate in Tuesday night games, and two 15 and under mixed teams, who play on Thursday nights at Altona.
With over 220 players and 33 coaches, the club enjoys strong participation from both players and parents.
All matches are held at the newly developed Altona Sports Stadium, which features 10 indoor netball courts. The stadium is conveniently located on Queen Street in Altona Meadows. Saturday games can commence between 12:15 pm and 5:10 pm. Summer runs from February to June, while winter takes place from July to December.
It is worth noting that no games are scheduled during school holidays. The age groups for players range from Under 9's to Under 17's.
To maintain a positive and inclusive environment, the club adheres to a set of codes of behaviour set by the Altona Netball Association and Netball Victoria. These codes ensure that all players, coaches, and spectators uphold respect, sportsmanship, and fairness throughout the club's activities. The club is proud to be affiliated with Netball Victoria and holds itself to the highest standards.
The Sanctuary Lakes Netball Club also has a strong focus on player selection. The club's selection policy, established in October 2023, aims to maintain a fun and supportive environment for all junior players. The policy recognises the changing needs and skill levels of players as they grow. The selection process involves a panel appointed by the committee, which considers factors such as age, skill level, positional balance, and team dynamics.
The objective is to ensure that players are placed in suitable teams, where they can develop and succeed alongside their peers.
Overall, the Sanctuary Lakes Netball Club is a thriving community-based organisation dedicated to fostering a love for netball, promoting physical activity, and creating a positive environment for all players and their families. Through its commitment to teamwork, integrity, and inclusivity, the club aims to inspire its members to achieve success and promote sportsmanship within the netball community.
