Runaway Bay Little Athletics Club, located in the Runaway Bay Sports Precinct (East) on the Gold Coast, is a well-established sports club that has been operating for over 40 years since its inception in 1980. As part of the South Coast region of Little Athletics QLD, the club is fully volunteer-run and prides itself on providing a high-quality athletic experience for over 450 athletes ranging from ages 3 and 4 in the Tiny Tots category, up to U17 age groups.
The club's primary goal is to offer a fun, family-oriented environment for young athletes to develop their athletic skills while promoting fitness. With a dedicated team of volunteers, Runaway Bay Little Athletics Club is committed to providing top-notch facilities, equipment, coaching, and support to its athletes.
The season typically starts in early September and continues until mid-March, with a break over the Christmas period. Competition nights are held every Friday, starting with the Tiny Tots category at 5 pm, followed by warm-ups for U6 to U17 age groups at 5:45 pm, and the start of competition at 6 pm. The duration of the competition varies depending on the age group and events being held.
To enhance the skills of its athletes, the club offers free training and coaching sessions every Wednesday afternoon from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. It is mandatory for at least one parent to be present for safety reasons and to assist with the smooth running of events during both competition nights and training sessions.
In addition to the regular club competitions, athletes have the opportunity to participate in Summer Carnivals and Combined Events Carnivals organised by Little Athletics QLD. These events are open to all U8 to U17 athletes, and specific dates can be found on the club calendar.
As part of the South Coast region, Runaway Bay Little Athletics Club hosts two regional events each year: the Regional Relay Championships and the Individual Championships. Athletes who excel in these events have the chance to qualify for the State Level competitions in Queensland. Successful athletes in the U13 and U15 age groups may even have the opportunity to represent their state at the National Championships held at the end of the season.
For young athletes with aspirations to compete at higher levels, Little Athletics QLD serves as a stepping stone to QLD Athletics and Athletics Australia, eventually leading to the possibility of competing at the Olympic level.
Whether your child is just starting their athletic journey or looking to further develop their skills, Runaway Bay Little Athletics Club offers an inclusive and supportive community where they can thrive. Register now for Season 2023/2024 to join the fun and exciting world of little athletics.
