As a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), Portland SLSC is dedicated to preventing aquatic-related death and injury in all Victorian communities. We work closely with Life Saving Victoria to ensure that all Victorians have the opportunity to learn water safety, swimming, and resuscitation skills. Our ultimate vision is to provide safe aquatic environments and venues for everyone.

The history of Portland SLSC is a story of resilience and determination. Established in 1931 as the Henty beach clubhouse, the club has weathered various changes and challenges over the years. From relocating to Narrawong beach in 1955 to settling on Bridgewater beach in the 1970s, the club has hosted Victorian State Championships, produced Bronze Medallion recipients, and continued to evolve with the times. Today, with the guidance of President Darryl Paterson, our club stands strong with 60-80 dedicated members patrolling the shores during summer.

But our passion for lifesaving goes beyond the summer months. Portland SLSC members participate in thrilling summer carnivals across Victoria, showcasing their skills and camaraderie. In the winter, our IRB team demonstrates their mettle, consistently ranking among the top in Victoria. The U23 Surf Boat Crew holds the prestigious title of 2020 Victorian State Titles Holders, a testament to their strength and determination.
